47 years ago today, Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier fought in what has been called the greatest heavyweight match in boxing history.
Personally, I’ve always felt that Joe Frazier was the superior boxer but he always made the mistake of letting Ali get inside his head. Muhammad Ali taunted all of his opponents. It was a part of his persona and a part of the game for him. Joe Frazier, however, took it personally. While George Foreman may have eventually forgave Ali, Frazier was always much more reluctant. One thing that made the Thrilla in Manila such a battle was because it was between two men who clearly did not like each other outside of the ring.
