I’m still getting used to them. I have a follow-up appointment on Tuesday where I’ll be learning more about how to control them. This week, I’m just supposed to wear them and make sure that I’m comfortable with them and they way that they feel.
When I first put in the hearing aids in the morning (or sometimes the afternoon), I love that sudden rush of sound. At the same time, I’ve discovered that taking them off at the end of the day can be a pleasure as well. Now that I know that the silence doesn’t have to be permanent, I’ve come to appreciate the peace of it.
My favorite thing to do right now is to walk around the neighborhood with my hearing aids in. I had forgotten so many sounds. Hearing them again is like running into an old friend.
I feel like I’m getting a new chance at life.
