It sounds like the Gavin Newsom recall effort in California is going to succeed, as far as forcing an election is concerned. It still think it’s going to be a lot more difficult for the recall to success this time than in 2003. First off, Newsom, for all of his many weaknesses, is still a better politician than Gray Davis. Secondly, Arnold Schwarzenegger isn’t running. People forget that, in 2003, voters not only had a chance to get rid of a bad governor but they also had the opportunity to replace him with one of the world’s biggest movie stars.
I just can’t see the voters getting as excited about the idea of replacing the governor with Doug Ose.
